Subaru Performance SUV Style

The new e-Boxer Hybrid system remains all-Subaru, with no compromise on capability and performance. This e-Boxer Hybrid Forester is powered by the unique e-Boxer engine which features an electric motor and high-voltage battery combined with Subaru’s petrol Boxer engine. The new system is engineered to provided efficiency as it is capable of automatically and effortlessly switching between three driving modes:

  • EV (pure electric),
  • Engine (petrol engine only), and
  • Motor Assist (electric motor and petrol engine combined) to match conditions.

In EV mode, power is supplied only by the electric motor. EV mode activates in driving conditions where petrol engine power is not efficient, such as when the vehicle is accelerating from rest or in morning rush-hour jams or after-work traffic. If more power is needed or the battery charge level is low, the engine may automatically switch to either Motor Assist or Engine mode.

Under low-load driving conditions, such as when cruising during off-peak hours, the e-Boxer Hybrid will run on Engine mode. In Engine mode, the petrol engine powers the car but also recharges the high-voltage lithium-ion battery on-the-go. Battery regeneration happens when the vehicle decelerates from the accelerator being released or when the brake pedal is pressed.

When accelerating or under higher loads, the e-Boxer Hybrid will run on Motor Assist mode – both the petrol engine and the electric motor automatically provide power together. The power-split ratio between the electric motor and petrol engine, depends on the driver’s throttle input. The system will adjust to optimise performance between the electric motor and petrol engine for a smoother, more efficient and environmentally-friendlier drive.

The petrol engine also deactivates when idling to conserve fuel. When the brake pedal is released, the electric motor enables the vehicle to continue creeping forward at idling speed in EV mode. The e-Boxer Hybrid system offers a highly efficient combined fuel consumption of 6.9L/100km, in addition to a combined torque output of 194Nm.

With e-Boxer, the Forester now offers smoother and more responsive acceleration, enhanced off-road capability and better efficiency.

The new Forester e-Boxer Hybrid engine is built to handle any adventure and is made for our environment as it provides a more responsive and effortless drive, with greater fuel efficiency compared to standard petrol models.

All-Round Improved Safety

EyeSight Advanced Driver Assist Technology

Subaru’s award-winning preventive safety system, EyeSight, is now more intuitive than ever. Equipped with innovative stereo cameras, EyeSight gets an upgrade with new features, which are especially useful in Singapore’s traffic congestion during peak hours.

EyeSight 4.0’s Pre-Collision Braking now covers even more traffic scenarios at intersections, thanks to its improved stereo cameras with coverage that has almost doubled laterally (from left to right) as well as vertically.

It is now able to help the driver look left and right, to detect obstacles and help prevent potential collisions, not only at its own lane, but at neighbouring lanes as well (e.g., vehicles travelling in the opposite direction and pedestrians crossing the road at left- or right-turn junctions).

EyeSight now includes nine features, of which three are new, Autonomous Emergency Steering, Lane Centering Function and Lane Departure Prevention, while Pre-Collision Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control have been improved.

  • Autonomous Emergency Steering helps swerve the Forester away from a vehicle or obstacle in front to avoid an accident (up to 80km/h)
  • The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system now has a Lane Centering Function. This helps to steer the Forester, keeping it in the middle of the lane, whether the road is straight or slightly curved. This is in addition to the existing feature of the ACC that helps drivers in highway traffic, by keeping the new Forester at a safe distance from the vehicle in front, helping the driver to slow down or speed up automatically.
  • EyeSight 4.0’s Lane Departure Warning includes Lane Departure Prevention. This nudges the steering wheel slightly towards the inside of the Forester’s lane when it detects that the driver is about to cross the line/lane markings while travelling at 60km/h or more.

EyeSight is a driving support system which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving and observe of traffic regulations. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, weather, and road conditions.

Driver Monitoring System (DMS)

uses an infra-red camera and facial recognition technology to monitor the driver’s eyes and alerts the driver when the system detects that he/she is distracted or falling asleep. DMS also remembers the personal settings of up to five drivers for their seat and door mirror positions and climate control settings. It automatically adjusts the cabin environment upon facial recognition.

The new Forester e-Boxer Hybrid now features DMS gesture control for the climate control system. A simple hand gesture adjusts the set temperature, adding further convenience and safety.

Subaru Rear Vehicle Detection System (SRVD)

Radar sensors check for vehicles in the blind spot and traffic approaching from behind the vehicle to warn the driver during lane changes and while reversing or backing up from a parking lot.

Reverse Automatic Braking (RAB)

The vehicle automatically applies the brakes when it detects the risk of a collision while reversing.

High Beam Assist (HBA)

This see-and-be-seen feature improves visibility, especially at night or in dark areas, minimising the risk of potential collisions. Relying on the EyeSight cameras, the HBA switches between high and low beams automatically without the need for the driver to constantly adjust headlights or worry about blinding other road users.

When engaged, the high beams automatically adjust to low beam when the cameras detect sufficient lighting (e.g., streetlamps), preceding vehicles, or oncoming ones in an adjacent lane. This is useful for drivers travelling in the rural areas while visiting Malaysia, where it can be particularly dark in some areas. This innovative hassle-free feature enables drivers to see better and enhances road safely.

Improved X-MODE: Intuitive Safety, Manoeuvrability and Convenience

Helping the Singaporean driver tackle the rough and challenging conditions while on off-road adventures to Malaysia with the touch of a button, X-MODE complements Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system to allow Forester e-Boxer Hybrid owners to drive more confidently, especially on uneven surfaces or challenging inclines. Drivers can select between ‘Snow/Dirt’ and ‘Deep Snow/Mud’ modes to suit the driving situation.

The improved X-MODE Auto Restore switches to ‘standby’ when the speed exceeds 40km/h, and subsequently comes back on when the speed drops below 35km/h. Previously, X-MODE would deactivate at 40km/h and had to be reactivated manually if needed. This improvement keeps the driver’s eyes on the road.

X-MODE’s Hill Descent Control empowers drivers, helping them maintain a controlled and constant speed even on slippery downhills in some areas, especially when going on off-road trail drives in Malaysia, which provides greater peace of mind and allows drivers to concentrate on steering.

It now operates more smoothly when the driver decides to accelerate during a gradual descent with X-MODE activated. There is no longer a delay between the driver's accelerator input and Hill Descent Control’s auto modulation of the brakes in X-MODE when driving slowly down a slope (20km/h or less).

In an urban setting, navigating around Singapore’s narrow and winding multi-storey carpark ramps, especially if the surface is slippery, will no longer be a tedious chore in the new Forester e-Boxer Hybrid.
