Subaru 10-Year Battery Warranty for BEV

Electric Battery Vehicles (BEV)

All terms, conditions, exclusions, and limitations under the New Vehicle Warranty shall apply to Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), except where specifically stated in this section, which governs Electric Vehicle Batteries. In the event of any inconsistency, the provisions in this section shall prevail.

Electric vehicles may be equipped with different types of batteries. The applicable warranty coverage for each is outlined below. All warranty periods commence from the earlier of the date of first registration or the date of delivery to the first owner.

Warranty for High-Voltage Battery

The high-voltage battery in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) is covered against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ten (10) years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first.

This updated warranty coverage introduced from May 2026 shall also apply retrospectively to all applicable Subaru Battery Electric Vehicles registered and operated in Singapore between January 2026 and May 2026.

Warranty on Net Battery Energy Content Degradation

Gradual reduction in battery capacity, energy output, or State of Health (SOH) over time and usage is a normal characteristic of lithium-ion batteries and does not, in itself, constitute a defect under this warranty. The rate of degradation may vary depending on usage patterns, operating conditions, charging practices, environmental factors, and vehicle age.

Vehicle driving range estimates or displayed range values are influenced by various factors, including driving behaviour, environmental conditions, temperature, terrain, and charging patterns, and shall not be regarded as a definitive measure of battery capacity or warranty eligibility.

However, the high-voltage battery is covered against abnormal or excessive loss of usable energy capacity as outlined below.

For the first eight (8) years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, the high-voltage battery shall be repaired or replaced under warranty if Subaru determines through an Authorised Subaru Service Centre that the battery’s usable capacity or State of Health (SOH) has fallen to or below 70%, subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, limitations, and servicing requirements set out herein.

From the 9th to 10th year or up to 200,000 km, whichever comes first, the high-voltage battery shall continue to be repaired or replaced if Subaru determines through an Authorised Subaru Service Centre that the battery’s usable capacity or State of Health (SOH) has fallen to or below 65%, subject to the provisions of this warranty.

State of Health (SOH) Requirement

To qualify for the high-voltage battery warranty, the vehicle must undergo complimentary State of Health (SOH) assessments at an Authorised Subaru Service Centre in accordance with Subaru’s recommended service schedule throughout the 10-year or 200,000 km warranty period, whichever comes first.

Compliance with the required SOH assessment(s) is mandatory. Failure to do so shall render any related high-voltage battery warranty claims invalid.

Warranty Exclusions and Limitations

The warranty shall not apply to any defect, malfunction, or degradation of the high-voltage battery arising from, or attributable to, any of the following:

  • • Any unauthorised tampering, removal, installation, interference, alteration, modification, disconnection, or improper adjustment of the high-voltage battery or vehicle systems out of Subaru’s Standard Factory Specification;
  • • Failure to comply with the operating, charging, maintenance, servicing, or care instructions as outlined in Subaru’s Owner’s Handbook and/ or Warranty Booklet;
  • • Exposure of the high-voltage battery to fire, extreme heat, direct contact with open flames, excessive water ingress or immersion, including but not limited to high-pressure cleaning or direct application of liquids onto the battery;
  • • Repairs, servicing, or maintenance carried out improperly or not performed by Subaru, Motor Image, or an Authorised Subaru Service Centre;
  • • Use of improper maintenance procedures, improper charging methods, improper or dirty fluids or lubricants, or use of imitation, counterfeit, or non-genuine parts, accessories, or equipment that do not comply with Subaru’s specifications;
  • • Misuse, mishandling, overloading, abuse, neglect, accident, theft, participation in motorsport activities, competitive speed testing, off-road usage, or operation under abnormal or excessive conditions beyond Subaru’s control [proper use as outlined in Owner’s Handbook];
  • • Damage arising from intentional misuse, deliberate destruction, or continued operation of the vehicle despite active warning messages, malfunction indicators, or service notifications;
  • • Damage resulting from external events, including but not limited to accidents, flooding, or environmental factors;
  • • Failure to report any defect promptly upon discovery, or failure to provide reasonable access for inspection, diagnosis, repair, or servicing when requested;
  • • Any consequential or secondary damage, including but not limited to battery defects, failures, or accelerated State of Health (SOH) degradation arising from other vehicle system malfunctions (e.g. cooling system failure).

Repair and Replacement Terms

Subaru or its Authorised Subaru Service Centre shall, at their sole discretion, determine whether the high-voltage battery is to be repaired, reconditioned, repaired on a modular basis, or replaced in whole or in part. Any replaced components shall become the property of the Authorised Subaru Service Centre.

Any repaired or replacement high-voltage battery may not restore the vehicle or battery to a like-new condition. However, the repaired or replacement battery shall provide performance and usable energy capacity reasonably appropriate for the age and mileage of the vehicle at the time of repair.

Battery usable capacity, State of Health (SOH), warranty eligibility, and the appropriate method of repair or replacement shall be determined solely using diagnostic methods and tools approved by Subaru or its Authorised Subaru Service Centre, at their sole discretion, and such assessment shall be final and binding.

Replacement batteries or components may consist of new, remanufactured, reconditioned parts of equivalent quality and performance. Replacement batteries shall be covered for the remaining duration of the original warranty period.

Under the extended high-voltage battery warranty:

  • • Coverage includes either one full battery replacement or multiple modular repairs;
  • • The total claim value shall be capped at the equivalent cost of one full battery replacement based on prevailing pricing at the point of replacement; and
  • • Any amount exceeding this cap shall be borne by the vehicle owner.

Warranty Transferability

The high-voltage battery warranty shall remain transferable to subsequent vehicle owners for the remaining duration of the original warranty, subject to compliance with all applicable warranty terms, conditions, and servicing requirements.

Any change of vehicle ownership must be updated with Motor Image within six (6) months from the date of ownership transfer, failing which the warranty may be rendered invalid.

General Limitations

Normal wear and tear, including expected battery degradation over time, is not covered under warranty. Any resulting consequential effects from such wear are also excluded.

This warranty does not guarantee uninterrupted, continuous, or error-free operation of the high-voltage battery or related electric vehicle systems, and minor fluctuations in performance or operating characteristics may occur during normal usage.

This warranty does not apply to vehicles used for commercial, fleet, ride-hailing, rental, or other high-utilisation purposes unless otherwise expressly approved in writing by Motor Image.

This warranty may be revised as reasonably necessary to align with regulatory, operational, technical, servicing, and market requirements and conditions.

Territorial Limitation

The high-voltage battery warranty applies only to vehicles that are registered and operated within Singapore. Vehicles permanently exported, registered, or principally operated outside Singapore shall not be eligible for coverage under this warranty.
