Subaru Corporation has notified TC Subaru Sdn Bhd and Motor Image Malaysia of a recall affecting
MY2004-MY2011 Impreza/ WRX, MY2010-MY2014 Legacy/Outback and MY2009-MY2012 Forester
The affected vehicles were equipped with front passenger airbag SPI inflators, which have been found to be defective.
These inflators were made with a propellant that can degrade over time and may lead to ruptures. There is no definitive cause yet, but exposure to moisture for extended periods play a role in causing the inflator propellant to ignite too quickly, hence producing excess pressure that might cause the inflator to rupture and send metal fragments into the front passenger cabin. This may potentially cause serious injuries to the vehicle occupants.
Notification letters of this recall have been sent to owners of the affected vehicles, based on our current records. However, through this medium, we hope to reach owners are not in our records and therefore have not received or may not receive such notifications, for example, used car owners or owners who have changed their contact details without notifying us.
